We are doing everything possible to make sure you stay connected in this challenging time. Because so many of our customers are now working and studying from home, it’s important to know which applications work with HughesNet, and how to get the most productivity from the applications that you use.
These applications work well with HughesNet:
• Office365 – Creating, Editing, and Sharing files via OneDrive
• Microsoft Teams – Chat, document sharing and editing (although large files may take a while to share or download if you are not editing them in the cloud)
• Google G Suite apps – Creating, Editing, and Sharing files via Google Drive
• Google Hangouts Chat – Chat, document/image sharing, and integration with G Suite apps
• Google Classroom – Viewing class activity, taking quizzes, taking and submitting assignments.
Phone and Conference Calls
For the best voice quality, dial into your online meetings on WebEx, Microsoft Teams, GoToMeeting, etc., using your cell phone, analog phone line or HughesNet Voice line.
Turn Off Video When Not Necessary:
• Video in Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and other meeting applications – We recommend, when possible, that you avoid using video sharing in meetings. When you use video, try to avoid using both audio and video together over the Internet. Instead, dial in for your audio using a mobile or home phone line, as this will improve overall performance.
• Uploading Instructional and other videos
Uploading and posting videos to sites like YouTube may be extremely slow during times of congestion.
To best upload videos from your phone, we recommend you select either 720p, 1080p, 1280 x 720 or HD from your camera video settings. This will vary by phone and camera. For most phones this can be found under Settings. These resolutions use significantly less storage space than other options. In addition, we recommend using 30 frames-per-second (fps) rather than 60, unless you are attempting to capture smooth high speed action. These smaller video files can be uploaded and shared much more quickly than their very-high resolution counterparts.
Check the Number of Connected Devices:
When several devices in your home are connected to the Internet, you may experience slower speeds. Even if some of the connected devices aren’t being used, they still may be processing updates or downloads in the background. Because of this, we recommend that you limit the number of devices on your network when attending virtual classes.
To view the devices connected to your network, open a web browser such as Chrome, Firefox, or Internet Explorer, type www.systemcontrolcenter.com in the address bar and press Enter. (You must be connected to HughesNet to access the System Control Center.)
• For the fastest speeds, connect your Ethernet LAN cable to your computer directly instead of using the Wi-Fi.
• If you do use Wi-Fi, make sure you have a strong signal and limit interference. You can check your signal strength using the Wi-Fi gauge on the HughesNet Mobile App.
• If you experience poor Wi-Fi signal quality in your home, you may benefit from the Hughes Wi-Fi Booster to enhance the signal.
